Cornell's Program

Cornell is a bustling place in the summer. Many undergraduates participate in research during the summer in Ithaca. Cornell has at least 15 summer programs sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the National Science Foundation, as well as Cornell and private funds.

Students in the program receive:

  • a stipend of $3,000 and $1,000 to cover living expenses while on campus.
  • round trip travel to Cornell
  • housing in a dormitory (double occupancy) on campus.
Students are expected to fully participate in all aspects of the summer program. All participants will give a presentation on their research at the Leadership Alliance Summer Research Symposium and at the Closing Day Symposium and Mentor Luncheon.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
  • be in good academic standing with a grade point average of 3.0 or better
  • have completed at least two but no more than seven semesters
  • demonstrate an interest in pursuing graduate study (students interested primarily in law school, business school, or medical school/clinical medicine or psychology are not eligible).
  • Documented US citizenship or permanent resident status
